Myotherapy

What is Myotherapy?

Myotherapists are Advanced Remedial Massage Therapists. Myotherapists use a larger scope of massage techniques and manual therapy than Remedial Massage Therapists to assess and treat musculoskeletal conditions and dysfunction. Their primary focus is hands on trigger point and manual therapy but may use additional modalities such as cupping, dry needling, taping, heat and cold therapy, ultrasound, electrotherapy and joint mobilisations to correct movement imbalances and help with injury rehabilitation. Health and fitness advice such as stretches and rehab exercises are also commonly educated.

Although Myotherapists are not trained in diagnosing specific injury and conditions, a myotherapist consultation will take a history and assessment of the problem area to look at imbalances in the body and social/environmental factors that may be contributing or aggravating your condition.

What conditions do myotherapist treat? (See also Remedial Massage conditions)

Myotherapy can treat a wide variety of already diagnosed musculoskeletal conditions, some examples include:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Heachaches
  • Jaw pain and dysfunction
  • Sporting injuries
  • Chronic pain conditions
  • Overuse injuries

Like Remedial massage and our other services, you do not need to be in pain to see our therapists. Treatments can be used to restore optimal function and activity, enhance performance and mobility or simply to reduce the risk of injury or aggravating injuries.

What are the benefits of Myotherapy? (See also Remedial Massage)

A Myotherapy session has the same benefits as Remedial Massage session although a patient may also be given some additional advice about health, fitness and lifestyle changes.

How often should I be seeing a Myotherapist? (See also Remedial Massage frequency)

You can see a Myotherapist at any time, our therapists will recommend you on the frequency of treatment sessions depending on your condition to optimise your function.
